What inspired your interest in pursuing your degree?

My interest in pursuing this degree was inspired by my very first research project during my master’s program, which focused on women’s health. I realized that women are a vulnerable population and often under studied in many areas. This experience motivated me to continue researching women’s health and contribute to improving their wellbeing.

Why did you choose to study at MSU?

I chose to study at MSU because during my interview, I felt that the professors were very respectful and genuinely friendly. Their kindness made me feel welcome and comfortable, which left a very strong and positive impression on me. I just had a good feeling about the program from that moment.

What has been one of your best experiences within graduate school so far?

Being part of a supportive and welcoming academic environment, and working with so many kind, supportive, and knowledgeable professors in the department, especially my supervisor Dr. Upson, has been one of my best experiences in graduate school so far. I always feel surrounded by genuinely kind people, which makes me feel welcomed and supported, and I truly enjoy studying here.

What are some of the best things about being an MSU/Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics student?

As I mentioned earlier, I really appreciate the department’s atmosphere. I love the supportive and welcoming environment, the collaborative spirit among students, and the accessibility of knowledgeable and approachable professors. All of these make being a department student both enjoyable and rewarding.

Any thoughts or advice for current students?

I really enjoy interacting with the current students in the program. Everyone is friendly and respectful, which makes day-to-day interactions pleasant and makes the department feel like a close and welcoming community.

What are your future plans?

I plan to complete my PhD degree within the next 2–3 years and pursue a position in industry where I can apply my skills and training, while maintaining a healthy work–life balance.
