What inspired your interest in pursuing your degree?
Generally, my passion for public health developed after completing my undergraduate degree in Disability and Rehabilitation, where I had the opportunity to serve as a teaching and research assistant. Through my involvement in various projects—including Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), community-based rehabilitation, and seat belt usage, I was inspired to pursue a graduate degree in epidemiology at MSU. Epidemiology offers comprehensive training that integrates key public health domains (disease prevention, health promotion, and overall health improvement)
Why did you choose to study at MSU?
The decision to study at MSU is motivated by Dr. Jean Kerver's ongoing research on child and maternal health, with a particular emphasis on nutrition and neurodevelopment.
What has been one of your best experiences within graduate school so far?
During the summer of 2024, I had the opportunity to work on a statewide food hunger project.
What do you want others to know about this program?
A comprehensive training in epidemiology that bridges the fields of public health and medicine.
What are some of the best things about being an MSU/Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics student?
Privilege of being immersed in a collaborative environment coupled with very supportive faculty and staff.
Any thoughts or advice for current students?
Time is an important facet of life, so manage it well. Also, seek help when needed.
What are your future plans?
My plan is to contribute to strengthening public health systems and capacity in Ghana. In the long term, I aim to establish a child and maternal health research institute in Ghana to contribute to research, mentorship, and public health sustainability.
