Candice Johnson (she/her) is an epidemiologist who studies how work-related exposures and policies affect the health of workers and their families. She primarily focuses on occupational segregation as a mechanism by which work acts as a structural driver of disparities in pregnancy outcomes. Much of her research uses large databases to study populations that have rarely been included in epidemiologic research due to their small numbers.

Dr. Johnson additionally maintains a research program in epidemiologic methods. Her recent work has included projects related to causal inference in exposure misclassification, healthy worker effects in pregnant populations, and in the measurement and use of race in epidemiologic studies and clinical guidelines. The goal of her methodologic research is to provide epidemiologists with easy-to-use tools and guidance that they can apply to their research.

Dr. Johnson received her PhD in Epidemiology from Emory University. Prior to joining the faculty at MSU, she was on faculty at the Duke School of Medicine and was an epidemiologist at the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
