Department Chair, Dr. Dawn Misra was recently on State Side regarding how federal funding cuts are affecting a study looking at Black mother and infant health in Detroit. The researchers are raising funds to cover costs after the Trump administration cut their grant from the National Institutes of Health.

First place at UURAF 25
Khushi Chhabra won the first-place award for the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Category at UURAF 2025.

The professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the College of Human Medicine commented on the elimination of federal funding for health research, including work on maternal health disparities that took years to receive funding.

What can newborn hearing tell us about neurodevelopment

Dr. Nicole Talge, an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, heads the MSU Neurodevelopment and Health Research Group.

Trends in Cervical Cancer
During 2008–2022, cervical precancer incidence decreased 79% and higher-grade precancer incidence decreased 80% among screened women aged 20–24 years, the age group most likely to have been vaccinated.  The Lead author of this publication is former PhD alum Julia Gargano.  Former PhD student Sarah Brewer was also a part of this research team.
