Amy Peterson, PhD is the Director of Research and Sponsored Programs for Munson Healthcare. In this role she oversees sponsored research studies, assists in the development of investigator-initiated research with Munson Healthcare providers and leads a dedicated team of research coordinators and research nurses. Dr. Peterson has a Doctorate in Sociology and a Master’s in Health Communication both from Wayne State University. Prior to joining Munson Healthcare in 2015, Dr. Peterson served as a Project Director in the Population Studies and Disparities program at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. In that role, Dr. Peterson’s focus was the psychosocial impact of pediatric cancer on children and their parents including social support, PTSD, self-efficacy, and reactions to multiple medical procedures related to pediatric cancer. Dr. Peterson also studied patient decision-making related to oncology clinical trials, the discussion of ‘bad news’ in clinical interactions and social influence and accrual to oncology clinical trials.
