Carol Janney, PhD, is trained as an epidemiologist specializing in physical activity and mental health.  She has collaborated with leaders in the field for the development and evaluation of PASE (Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly) in community-dwelling older adults (citations exceed 1,000).  Her novel doctoral work established that adults with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder were significantly less active as measured by accelerometry than matched controls. As an applied biostatistician, she has co-authored published papers using ANCOVA, linear regression, logistic regression, conditional logistic regression, longitudinal analyses, survival analyses, and mixed methods.  Recently, Dr. Janney has expanded her methodology portfolio to encompass community-based and -engaged research related to mental health care.  Dr. Janney strengthens our department by partnering with a diversity of worksites (pharmaceutical industry, universities, medical centers and clinics, contract research organizations, and Veterans Affairs), researchers (clinicians, academe, staff, patients, families, and communities) and topics (bone health, muscular strength, physical activity, mental health, financial literacy, assessment of physical activity, and cancer) throughout her career.  Finally, her research skills and expertise encompass the full research spectrum.  Recent honors include ‘Best Case Report’ at the American Psychiatric Association 2021, ‘Best 2021 paper’ in Family & Consumer Sciences Research Journal, and ‘Outstanding Reviewer’ for the American Journal of Preventative Medicine 2015, 2017, 2018.
