Greg Holzman, M.D., M.P.H., is a leader in public health practice and medicine with keen insights into epidemiological surveillance and tactics needed to improve the health of the public. A board certified specialist in family and preventive medicine, Dr. Holzman benefited from his work with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and his service as Deputy Director for CDC’s Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support. In Michigan, he served on the CHM faculty and was appointed Director of the MSU Healthy Campus Initiative. His work with faculty members and students in our department started at that time. He continued this work as he transitioned to state-level public health leadership positions with service as Chief Medical Officer for the State of Michigan and then Chief Medical Officer for the State of Montana and the Montana Department of Public Health and Health Services (2015-2021). He strengthens our department’s faculty with insights into public health practice and his years of work with First Nation tribal leaders and communities, most recently with focus on COVID and hazards linked to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.
