Congratulations to 2022 PhD in Epidemiology graduate Barrett Montgomery who submitted an essay to the Annual Anthony Family Fund Award competition.
Dr. Montgomery is now an alumni of Michigan State University’s PhD in Epidemiology program and now serves as a public health researcher in drug use prevention and epidemiology at RTI International. Dr. Montgomery’s research has thus far focused on the epidemiology of drug use and drug use behaviors, with special attention to associations with changes in drug policy. Because of his interest in policy as a driver of health, Dr. Montgomery’s research often integrates econometric methods and thinking into his epidemiological research. He has a passion for the budding field of economic epidemiology and strongly believes that the two fields have much to learn from each other. As such, he feels that winning the Anthony Family Award for an outstanding paper at the intersection of epidemiology and econometrics is a true honor that not only contributes to his career development, but also helps in legitimizing this important intersection of research. He is grateful to the Anthony Family for their generous contribution to make this award possible, to his mentors, Professors Jim Anthony and Debra Furr-Holden, and his co-authors, Meaghan Roberts and Professor Claire Margerison, all of whom without this work would not have been possible.
