Undergraduate attends International Stroke Conference

February 24, 2020

Undergraduate junior researcher, Brent Strong, who works with Dr. Mat Reeves on stroke related research, recently attended the International Stroke Conference (ISC) 2020 meeting in Los Angeles, California. The ISC is the largest and most well-known stroke research meeting in the world. Brent presented 2 posters based on his work on two different meta-analysis projects. The first examined the effect of the early termination of clinical trials undertaken in acute stroke patients, and the second examined trends in the enrollment of women in recently published acute stroke trials.

This second project was chosen to be highlighted at a special session that addressed the topic of Stroke in Women. Brent was one of 6 presenters who each had 10 minutes to review their findings and respond to questions from the audience.

Not surprisingly, Brent was the only undergraduate student on this special panel and received a warm round of applause when this was pointed out by the moderator!

Brent described the experience as “something really special. It was awesome to be presenting alongside some of the people whose research I’ve been reading extensively. Overall, it just felt really good to showcase what we’ve have been working on and meet new people in the field!”

Brent is motivated to continue his interest in stroke research and is planning on applying to graduate schools in the fall of 2020.

Thanks for carrying the banner for the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Brent!
